On Monday, January 26, 2015 partypoker officially unveiled their new and improved mobile app for both iOS and Android, which included the long-awaited arrival of MTT’s. The upgrade is part of a larger effort towards what the company is calling, “a company wide ambition to enhance not only the availability but also the playability of partypoker’s poker games.”
“With this extensive new offering including juicy multi table tournaments for .com and in New Jersey there is now even more prize money to play for from your mobile,” Team partypoker’s Mike Sexton stated in the company’s press release. “We want customers to be able to play their favourite games at a time to suit them… If you’re sat on the bus or in the bath, this app will bring the party to you when you’re ready to play,” Sexton added.

Immediate impact of partypoker’s new app
Despite the lack of MTT’s in their mobile offerings, and despite competitors like WSOP.com offering MTT’s on their mobile app, partypoker has dominated online tournament poker in New Jersey nonetheless.
Up until very recently, partypoker was also the top site for cash game traffic, a run that ended when 888 and WSOP.com began sharing players at select tables. This pooling at WSOP.com and 888 saw their cash game traffic vault past partypoker/Borgata according to PokerScout.com, which had led the industry in overall cash game traffic since the industry launched in November of 2013.
partypoker’s new app should cement their place as the top tournament site in NJ (partypoker/Borgata offers a $50k Guarantee every Sunday while WSOP.com’s largest weekly tournament is the $25k Guarantee), and could potentially lead to some spillover to the site’s cash game tables as well.
Mobile is being touted as the platform of the future for online gaming, and companies are putting a lot of emphasis on building solid mobile products and promoting their mobile platforms. According to Caesars Interactive’s Seth Palansky, mobile currently encapsulates 26% of the online poker players at WSOP.com, so it’s not hard to envision mobile overtaking PC as the platform of choice in the not so distant future.
As this changing of the guard occurs, the companies that deliver a cutting edge, user-friendly, mobile app will set themselves up for future success.
Furthermore, if things progress as expected, partypoker will soon have to deal with industry leader PokerStars in New Jersey as well, and the more wrinkles they are able to iron out before squaring off against the online poker giant the better. A mobile app without MTT’s would have been yet another reason for potential players to choose PokerStars over partypoker.
