At the time of its November 2013 launch, it was the only domain to operate under the Tropicana Casino AC license. However, it would soon be joined by sister site VirginCasino.com shortly after, in early 2014.
Part of Tropicana’s success can be attributed to the software behind the brand, which is supplied by Gamesys Ltd. The London-based online gaming supplier is largely known as one of the most reputable names in the business.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Tropicana Casino tends to run the most eclectic and frequent promotions in the industry, and offers players a slew of quality of life and account management features.
All told, Tropicana’s strategy has helped vault it to the top of the charts, matching the likes of the Borgata and Caesars stride for stride.
So what does Tropicana Casino have to offer its players?

Tropicana offers an enticing no deposit bonus that allows players to try before they buy, and provides them with a more-than-reasonable shot at walking away with some free cash.
As traditional as the Tropicana no deposit bonus is, its first deposit offer is anything but. Instead of tasking players with meeting exorbitant wagering requirements before reaping the fruits of their labor, Tropicana instead gifts players who take a hit at the tables with a second chance — no strings attached.
Tropicana invites all new players to enjoy a free $20 sign up bonus when they register a new account at the online casino. The bonus dollars must be played within 30 days and has a requirement of a one-time playthrough on any game before any winnings can be cashed out.
For a “no deposit” bonus, that is a pretty fantastic deal. The only downside is that the bonus dollars themselves are not redeemable for cash, only the winnings.
Use Tropicana Casino online bonus code PLAY20.
Tropicana Casino $100 cash back refund
Most casinos offer a first time deposit match bonus, paired with lofty player requirements to clear the bonus money. Tropicana is experimenting with a different angle.
Instead of matching deposits dollar for dollar, Tropicana effectively guarantees players won’t lose their first $100 they deposit. Here’s how it works:
- If you lose more than 90 percent of your first deposit ($10 minimum) within seven days, you are refunded an amount equal to the loss, up to $100.
- If you lose less than 90 percent, but still don’t make a profit, you will be refunded $100 or an amount equal to the loss (whichever is smaller).
The refund is funded as cash, and can be either used to take a second shot, or withdrawn immediately.
All first time depositors are automatically enrolled in this deal (no promo code necessary).
Why play at Tropicana Casino?
#1 – Software
Tropicana Casino is operated by the Gamesys platform. As such it sports user-friendly, easy to use software.
Access to the cashier, account management features, and help sections are never more than one or two clicks away. And overall the server response times are lightning fast, with minimal hangups and server lag.
Tropicana even incorporates chat functionality and one-off games like 90 Ball Bingo into its game interface, both rarities in the NJ online casino market.
Then, there’s the game selection.
Tropicana Casino offers a sizable selection of slots as well as table games with new additions being added all the time. Filtering options would be a nice add on, but its NJ online casino games library isn’t yet so expansive that they’re absolutely necessary.
#2 – Cashiering options
Tropicana Casino offers a multitude of options to fund your account including:
- Instant e-check
- Online banking transfer
- 7-Eleven PayNearMe
Both depositing and cashing out is quick and easy. Favorited deposit methods are saved by the system, allowing for one-click accessibility. This means no more typing in long numerical strings every time you want to make a transaction.
But perhaps the best aspect of Tropicana’s cashier are the rapid turnaround times on withdrawals. It’s not uncommon for payouts to hit verified bank accounts within two business days.
This said, we would like to see the addition of a pre-paid card option and/or PayPal, as both of these methods boast exceedingly high success rates.
#3 – Community jackpots
Unique to the Tropicana/Virgin brand are Community Jackpots.
Players that play real-money games have the chance to win special keys, which can unlock three-to-five digit jackpot prizes. In addition, whenever someone hits a jackpot, anyone who was online and wagering within the hour prior receives a piece of a secondary jackpot.
The total monetary value of the initial jackpot ranges from $500-$10,000, with up to an additional $20,000 split by the community.
Community Jackpots have proven so popular on Tropicana Casino that many of the operator’s promotions are inspired by them. Namely, it’s sharepot promos, where all participants share a guaranteed prize pool, are run on a consistent basis.
Areas Tropicana casino online could improve
- Mobile table games: For an operator that hosts such a diversified blend of table games on its desktop client, its mobile table game selection is a stark disappointment. Only one variation of blackjack and roulette has made the transition to mobile, and at present, it seems like only slot titles are being added to the mobile client.
- Slot selection: Nearly all of Tropicana’s 120+ slots can be found on other NJ online casino sites. What’s more, is that many of these sites boast an abundance of titles that Tropicana does not. That said, Tropicana is actively increasing its number of games, and the titles currently present on the site are generally enticing ones.
- Similarities to Virgin: Outside of a color swap and different promotions, Tropicana is virtually identical to Virgin Casino. We understand that they are sister companies, but it would be nice to see them branch out a bit and offer some more unique offerings.
Tropicana Casino on mobile devices
Tropicana Casino is available for download on both Android and iOS mobile devices.
In order to download and use the application, Android users will need to be running OS 2.3 and above, and iPhone/iPad users iOS 6.0 or above.
Do note that the more modern the device and operating system, the more likely that the app will run seamlessly.
After downloading the Android app, we were able to determine that it supports a rather healthy 63 games, or roughly half the number of games found on the desktop client. Relative to other NJ online mobile apps, that percentage stacks up quite nicely.
Unfortunately, nearly all the games are slots (57), with just four single-line video poker variants offered, and one version of blackjack and roulette apiece. That’s really too bad, because the browser-based app supports a variety of table games that are in limited supply in the NJ market.
It is not a requirement to download all of Tropicana’s games in order to play, but the games that do require a download typically run more smoothly. That said, players with limited device memory may want to monitor how many games they’re downloading.
Early in its development, the Tropicana mobile casino app seemed to be plagued with stability issues — as were most early versions of NJ online casino apps. But after several tweaks and the addition of new games and account management features, the app is now regarded as one of the most stable and flexible in New Jersey.
Deposits and withdrawals
Tropicana Casino makes it easy to deposit and withdrawal with a myriad of different options.
We would like to see the addition of PayPal and a pre-paid card option to the list, but despite its absence, we were pleased with what the casino offered.
Available deposit options include:
- Instant check (ACH)
- Online bank transfer
- 7-Eleven PayNearMe
- Cash at the casino
Players with bank accounts are highly encouraged to deposit using ACH or online bank transfers. These methods are both swift and accepted with a high frequency.
Moving to the second tier, Neteller and PayNearMe are reliable, but slightly inconvenient, options.
Visa/MasterCard should be used as a last line of defense, as the acceptance rates are mediocre. For credit/debit card users, the introduction of a pre-paid card option would be a game changer, as it’s generally very easy to load these cards with funds from a debit/credit card. But for whatever reason, Tropicana has held off.
For players who live within proximity of or who are visiting Atlantic City, cash at the Tropicana casino cage is a quick and reliable method. Unfortunately, this just isn’t a viable alternative for the majority of players.
Available withdrawal options include:
- ACH bank transfer – If you deposited using ACH (instant check) or OBT (online bank transfer).
- Check – Minimum for check withdrawal of $20.
- Neteller – This option is only available if you deposited using this method.
- Casino cage – at the Tropicana Casino & Resort.
Withdrawals will rarely take more than a couple of days to process. However, checks by mail will take approximately seven to 10 business days to hit player mailboxes.
Players who did not use ACH/OBT/NETELLER to deposit may be better off picking up their funds from the Tropicana casino cage in Atlantic City.
One of the main advantages of playing at an online casino versus live is that online, budget-conscious players have a much wider range of stakes available to them.
For instance, at Tropicana Casino the table minimum for a variety of games — table games included — ranges from $0.10 to $1.
Maximums are generally in line with what players will find at brick and mortar venues. Tropicana Casino does offer several games that can be played for high stakes with table maximums running from $2,500 – $4,000, however.
The majority of slot machines are multi-line penny machines where the minimum bet to cover all lines is generally under a dollar. On the top end, it’s not uncommon for a maximum wager to exceed $50.
Slot feature: Nuts and Bolts
What could be more fun that two crazy robots bouncing around your screen? Not a whole lot, and your only chance to play this game is online, as it isn’t offered in any land-based casinos.
When you click spin, the robots pull the crank. If the robot parts line up in a winning combination, it triggers a winning streak feature that locks in the winning symbols and spins the remaining reels. These spins will continue on until no new wins are triggered.
Better yet, players will not incur any additional costs on winning streak spins — likening them to free spins.
What’s more, during a winning streak lightning pods will activate above each column. Should all three symbols in a column be locked, then the bolt will fire a pulse, causing a random symbol in that column to turn wild.
Turn all three symbols on a reel wild, and an unlocked symbol will turn wild too. Talk about a chain reaction.
In addition to the unique bonus features, we also like the betting spread. Players can risk just $0.25 per spin or as much as $100, with plenty of options in between.
Although, where’s the auto play feature?
Table games feature: Single Zero Roulette and Single Zero High Stakes Roulette
Both games are played exactly the same way.
The primary difference is that the regular version of the game offers a betting limit of $0.10 to $1000 and the high stakes version offers stakes from $10 to $4,000.
The majority of online roulette games are of the American variety, meaning the wheels have both a zero and a double zero. Believe it or not, the presence of a second zero effectively doubles the house edge.
As the name implies, Trop’s Single Zero Roulette game features just a solitary zero, reducing the house edge to a workable 2.7 percent.
It’s extremely rare to find single zero roulette for as little as $0.10 a spin anywhere in New Jersey — so kudos to Tropicana for giving casual players a chance.
Another nice nuance is the instant spin option, which bypasses the virtual spinning of the wheel, and just provides the end result. After all, isn’t that what matters most?
Player perks at Tropicana Casino
Trop Points rewards program
Casinos offer their players reward programs as a way to thank their loyal customers for continued play. Tropicana Casino is no different in this vein.
Tropicana’s rewards program is called Trop Points.
For every $15 you wager on 90 Ball Bingo, for every $40 you bet playing slots, or for every $100 you bet on all other games, you will earn 1 Trop Point. Once you accumulate 20 Trop Points, you can swap them for Bonus Money.
This comes out to be $0.01 for each Trop Point you receive. Once the Trop Points are converted to Bonus Money, they are subject to a one-time playthrough like the rest of Tropicana Casino’s promotions.
Unfortunately, Trop Points are not redeemable at Tropicana Casino & Resort and are only redeemable for online play.
Another downside of the program are the low cashback rates, just 0.025 percent on slots and 0.01 percent on table games. By comparison, Atlantic City players can expect at least a 0.1 percent return on slot wagers.
Think of Trop Points as a small added incentive, but they’ll probably never be a your primary motivation for playing.
If your play qualifies you, in addition to Trop Points, Tropicana Casino offers you all kinds of added bonuses. Some of these perks include high-end prizes, fine dining experiences, free tickets to shows, and concierge services.
It is worth noting, however, that VIP play requirements are not listed anywhere on the site. If your play warrants VIP treatment, you might be better off playing at another casino that is more transparent with the program’s requirements.
Tropicana Casino player tools
Tropicana Casino allows you to set your deposit limits on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You can also set a spending limit on the amount of money you have in your account or a time limit on the amount you can play during a single session.
You can also set your account to keep your from accessing it for a period of 72 hours to a month. During this cooling off period, players are still permitted to withdraw any outstanding funds.
If none of this is enough, you can request to exclude yourself from accessing your online account through the New Jersey Casino Gambling Self-Exclusion Program for a period of one to five years.
Do note, however, that self-excluding yourself from Tropicana Casino will cause all NJ online casino sites to revoke your playing privileges.
The My Account menu in Tropicana Casino includes the full cashier, Trop Point balance, and a multitude of other easily navigable features.
Tropicana Casino is regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and must follow all operational guidelines, including the segregation of player funds from other financials and responsible gambling options.
As additional security, Tropicana requires patrons to enter a user name and password and then to complete their log in, they must enter a four-digit PIN, which is sent to your mobile phone.
Tropicana Casino October 2018 updates
Tropicana’s brick-and-mortar casino in Atlantic City is now owned by Eldorado Resorts. This will mean some changes to their online site, the first of which was to reduce staffing at the online casino. We’ll just have to wait and see what effect that has.
At the online casino, there are 3 new games to test out:
- Fairytale Legends: Mirror Mirror: This particular slot plays off the tale of Snow White by the Brothers Grimm and has 3 random features: Fairy Magic Spin, Fairy Surprise and Fairy Mirror. There are also three bonuses, triggered by the gold box symbol that appears on reels 1-2-5.
- Swipe & Roll: You’ll find Wild Respins, a Coin Wheel, and a Free Spins bonus game on this slot, which is set in a 1950s diner, complete with cool red convertible outside, and an old-fashioned soda fountain inside.
- Monkey Prince: An Asian-inspired game featuring 3 Monkey Prince Masks that don’t pay, but are added to a running total in the upper left corner. Amass these to access 3 special features.
Trop also makes it worth you while to play this month, with 4 special Fall of More promotions:
- Howling Hours: October 8-11, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., you can earn up to $30 Bonus Money, per day. Just wager at least $20 on any game during the playback hours and you’ll earn a 15% Playback Bonus on your Total Net Loss.
- NetEnt Playback: October 8-14, you can try out select NetEnt games risk free, with a 100% Playback, worth up to $5 Bonus Money. Just wager at least $5 on any of the select games during the qualifying period and you will earn a 100% Playback Bonus on your Total Net Loss.

- Bushel of Bonuses: Earn up to $50 Bonus Money Playback from October 12-14 by wagering at least $50 on select games.
Check the Tropicana site for game and promotion specifics.
Tropicana Online Casino Review
- Withdrawal Req.
Tropicana only offers casino games – no poker – but that’s seemed to be of little concern to the tens of thousands of players that have helped make Tropicana online one of the highest grossing standalone online casino operator in NJ. That designation comes on the strength of a solid platform with cutting-edge games, innovative promotions and strong tie-ins with the land-based Atlantic City property. Bottom line: TropicanaCasino.com is one of the most successful online casinos in NJ’s regulated online market, and it’s not hard to see why.
